Here at Wyvern Academy our vision is to provide a bespoke education tailored to each pupil, delivered in a creative and nurturing environment, inspiring all who work and learn with us to develop their full potential. Working in partnership with families, we aim for all children and young people to flourish and to lead as full, interesting and independent lives as possible, leaving Wyvern with a strong sense of who they are and where they belong in the world.

For our pupils to:

  • Feel confident, safe, happy, independent, respected and to treat others with respect
  • Nurture a sense of wonder about the world, to feel included and to have a sense of belonging
  • Have developed the knowledge and skills to be able to succeed in achieving inspirational and challenging goals
  • Have had the experiences and relationships that lead towards their goals

We are committed to achieving our aims each and every day. The culture, leadership and development of the academy operate within an ethos built around these aims:

  • To empower our students to enjoy full and rewarding lives personally and socially by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to develop as individuals to the maximum possible extent
  • To support our students’ families on this journey
  • To help shape a more equitable and understanding world for our students and their families

Underpinning this commitment is the need to:

  • understand the specific and diverse needs of our pupils and their families, both as they develop and into future adult life
  • provide the specialist education, therapeutic support and community our students need to achieve their maximum potential – particularly in voice, choice independence, ability and purpose
  • work with partner agencies and the community to ensure positive outcomes and develop inclusion, participation and further opportunities for students transitioning into adult life

We work within collectively held values that reflect the common purpose we recognise of serving the needs of children and young people with SEND and SLD, and their families, in the South Dorset community. We do this:

  • To ensure the safety and wellbeing of the child or young person is paramount
  • To aim for the highest possible achievement for our students in all aspects of their development
  • To proceed, always, with compassion and understanding first, despite the inherent complexities and conflicts faced
  • To embrace and promote a modern, diverse and accepting society whilst acknowledging the real, lived day-to-day challenges our students and their families face
  • To value all individuals and promote their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, resilience and sense of belonging in our school community
  • To value and work towards a cleaner, safer environment
  • To strive for excellence in all we do
